Mercyhurst Defeats Greensboro, 13-3

GREENSBORO, NC--Mercyhurst College beat Greensboro, 13-3, at Pride Field on Tuesday. The Lakers improved to 3-0, while GC dropped its season opener.

Amy Plumley recorded five goals and Vanessa Turner potted four for the visitors--who are an NCAA Division II school ranked in the nation's top ten.

For Greensboro, Lorin Smith (Davidsonville, MD/South River) picked up where she left off last year. The sophomore scored all three GC goals unassisted. She had a school-record 49 goals in 2000. Goaltender Stephanie Schaeffer (Davidsonville, MD/South River) stopped 12 shots for The Pride.

In its next game, Greensboro hosts Guilford College March 12. Mercyhurst, after sweeping three Southern Colleges (Pfeiffer, Limestone and GC) plays at Shippensburg on March 17.
