GC UPSET BID FALLS SHORT;
LIMESTONE DEFEATS PRIDE, 7-5

3-1-02

GREENSBORO, N.C.-- NCAA Division III Greensboro College gave Limestone College, ranked fifth in the D-II rankings, all it could handle on Friday. The Saints (4-0) beat The Pride, 7-5, but the game was in doubt until the final minute.

After trailing 4-2 at the break, The Pride (0-2) outscored the Saints 3-1 early in the second half. Rebecca Beninghove's goal made the score 5-5 at the 44:34 mark. GC had a number of chances to take the lead, but LC scored goals in the 54th and 59th minutes to prevail.

"I was happy with the way we played," said first year GC Head Coach Tammy Dixon. "We played with great intensity, and didn't give up at the end.

Lorin Smith led the home team. She scored two goals and passed for one assist. GC goalkeeper Stephanie Schaeffer stopped 16 Saint shots. Meghan Denehy tallied twice for Limestone. Brandi Daigle had eight saves for LC.
