The 2003 GC women’s lacrosse team finished the
year with the most wins in program history. The Pride was 13-4 despite
playing the toughest schedule to date. GC won the Dixie Conference championship
for the third straight year, went undefeated in conference play, and captured
the DIAC regular season crown.
The '03 team smashed the program's record book.
New GC women's lacrosse marks were set for assists, goals and points in
a season. The Pride also dominated the all-conference teams.
“I’m very proud of this team," said Coach Tammy
Dixon. "We set goals early in the year and the players worked hard
to accomplish them. We focused on teamwork and assists, which will help
us in the future. I have never worked with such a committed and determined
group before, and am looking forward to a great season next year."
Goalkeeper Stephanie
Schaeffer was the regular season and tournament most valuable player.
All-time leading scorer Lorin Smith continued
to add to her impressive numbers, and was picked to her third straight
DIAC 1st team. Smith set new benchmarks this year for single-season points
(87) and assists (42) in a season. She is the GC all-time leading
scorer with 208 goals, 101 assists for 309 points.
Smith and Schaeffer led GC's emergence as a regional
contender in women's lacrosse. During the "Davidsonville Duo's" four seasons,
The pride posted a 38-24 (.617) mark. Against conference competition, GC
was 17-1 (.944).
Chrissy Smith,
Amanda
McGlaughlin,
Kari Hall and Anne
Oliphant were third through seventh respectively in individual
scoring for the green and white. As a whole, the 2003 freshman class scored
an impressive 135 goals, passed for 94 assists, which accounted for 53-percent
of Greensboro's offense.
Rising senior Rebecca
Beninghove has 166 points and is just three points out of second
place, on The Pride all-time tally. Rising junior Yvette
Jones and rising senior Michele Barker
will also be expected to play key leadership roles next season.
