The GC women's lacrosse did it again. First-year Head Coach Gregg Gebhardl ed The Pride to its fourth straight conference championship in 2004. GC also shared the regular season crown for the fourth time in a row, too!
The team's record was 9-8 overall. The Pride faced numerous strong regional teams and two NCAA Division II teams. With key players changing positions this year and a first-year lacrosse goalkeeper, GC peaked late in the season. The green and white won its last five games and seven of the final 9 games on the schedule.
Included in that winning streak were three wins
in the USA South Tournament. The Pride won the championship in convincing
fashion, beating Shenandoah University, 19-8.
Greensboro College dominated the all-conference
team with six players named to the all-USA South team, and six receiving
all-tournament honors. Two GC freshmen, Brittany
Metz and Jenna Gast, also garnered
the tournament M-V-P and conference rookie-of-the-year award, respectively.
GC will miss senior leaders Michele
Barker, Rebecca Beninghove and Leah
Taylor. Barker was picked the team most valuable player and Taylor
garnered the coaches' award at season's end. The well decorated Beninghove
leaves GC as the second leading scorer in Pride women's lacrosse history.
Sophomore Shelly Lynch-Sparks won
the team's most improved honor.
