The Greensboro College women'rsquo's lacrosse squad finished 2005 with a 7-7 record, but was 4-1 in USA South Conference matches.
Faced with a difficult early-season schedule, GC got off to a slow start. Yet the green and white rebounded at mid-season and, at one point, The Pride won six straight games, the second longest winning streak in program history. During that stretch, Greensboro bested four conference teams; defeated Roanoke for the first time in Pride history and upended visiting Hartwick.
On offense, Amanda
McGlaughlin led GC with 37 goals and 29 assists. Karen
Hall and Jenna Gast recorded 34
and 30 goals for The Pride respectively.
Greensboro placed
eight student-athletes on the all-conference team. Sophomore Jackie
Cianfrani was the lone Pride student-athlete named to the USAS
tournament team.
Having won four of the five USA South women's lacrosse titles, GC is bullish on the 2006 season. With the conference now fielding seven teams and meeting playoff qualification status, The Pride hopes to secure the first ever NCAA bid awarded to a USA South team next year.
Following the season,
McGlaughlin was name to the all-region second team. Teammate Roberton became
the second Pride player selected to play in the prestigious North-South
All-Star Game.
