Listen to Coach Carlyle
talk about his new positon
Ken Carlyle

Ken Carlyle has been hired as head baseball coach at Greensboro College, Athletics Director Kim Strable announced.

Carlyle had served under Scott Rash as an assistant coach since January, 2001. His duties: pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for this year's GC team. Carlyle helped Greensboro to a 19-16 record--a nine game improvement from the previous season. His pitching staff reduced its earned run average by more than one run from the '00 club.

Carlyle was a professional baseball player in the Detroit Tiger and Atlanta Brave organizations from 1992 to 1999. He reached the Triple-A level, and was a Double-A All-Star in 1994.

A business management graduate of the University of Mississippi, Carlyle was the Rebels' all-time leader in pitching victories. He previously coached at Brevard Community College (1997-98). Prior to arriving at Greensboro College, Carlyle was employed as a merchandise manager with the Amateur Athletic Union in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

"Sometimes the best candidate for a job is already on staff," said Strable. "Ken Carlyle has an impressive baseball resume and knows our program. He has support from the current baseball student athletes and the GC community. More importantly, he has the skills to lead Greensboro College baseball into the future."

Carlyle replaces Scott Rash, who resigned his post to become assistant director of development at Randolph Macon (Va.) College, his alma mater. Rash started the Greensboro College baseball program in 1993. He closed his nine year career with a 170-165-4 record (.507 winning percentage). His victory total included five consecutive 20-win seasons. Rash led The Pride to the Dixie Conference championship and the NCAA Tournament in 1998.
