GC 6-4, Shenandoah 2-6

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University and Greensboro College split a USA South double-header on Saturday. GC won the opener, 6-2, and SU took the nightcap, 6-4.

The Hornets (12-11 overall, 3-8 USA South) have now won eight of their last 11 games this season while the Pride (17-7, 5-6) lost to SU for only the third time in three seasons.

Shenandoah was in good position to take the opening game, trailing 2-1 after five innings, but Greensboro broke the contest open when third baseman Jeremy Egan hit a two-run homer to left center off of SU starter Nick Sborz with no outs in the top of the sixth.

GC pitcher AnDrew Keever improved to 5-0 and struck out 4 Hornet batters in the game.

In the late game, Shenandoah took advantage of early pitching miscues from the Pride and its own good hitting to build up a 5-2 lead after five innings.

A pair of wild pitches by Greensboro starter Erik Kutz led directly two a 2-0 SU lead after the first inning and sophomore David Jenkins' two-run double in the fourth gave the Hornets the boost in momentum they needed.

GC's Jeremy Morrison failed to get a hit in the second game. His hitting streak ended at a program-best 26 games.

The Hornets will meet the Pride again tomorrow for the rubber match of this three game series at 1:00.

GC record 17-7, 5-6; Streak L1; Up next @ SU, 3-21, 1 p.m.
