Game 1: Ferrum 15, GC 12
Ferrum College (19-4, 11-2) came
from behind to beat The Pride, 15-12, in the first game of a USA South
doubleheader on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
With GC leading 10-5, the visiting
Panthers scored 7 runs in their half of 6th inning of the 7-inning game.
GC came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th but got no closer.
Larry Lockhart was 3-5 with
2 runs scored and 2 RBI to lead GC hitters. Lockhart also knocked a home
run and stole a base. Jeremy Morrison, Jesse Sutton and Brent
Cole each had 2 hits.
Jeff Pothoven (1-1) took the
loss for The Pride. FC outhit the home club 17-13.
Game 2: Ferrum 10, GC 3
Ferrum College scored 5 runs (4
unearned) in the 5th inning en route to a 10-3 win over Greensboro College
on Saturday in the second game of a USA South doubleheader at War Memorial
Stadium.
Carlos Sanchez earned the win for
Ferrum (20-4, 12-2), which swept GC. Sanchez pitched a complete game and
allowed 5 hits and fanned 8 GC batters. Brandon Hale was 2-5 with a home
run, 2 runs, and 3 RBI. Kevin Griffin went 2-4 with 1 run, a home run and
2 RBI.
For The Pride (18-10, 6-8) Jeremy
Egan was 1-4 with a solo home run. Jeremy Morrison was 1-3 with
1 run and 1 RBI. Starting pitcher Erik Kutz took the loss. He pitched
8 innings and allowed 6 earned runs. He had 7 walks and 7 strikeouts. Relief
pitcher Brett Leister pitcher a scoreless ninth inning for The Pride.
