Matt Aker

Coach Matt Aker enters his fourth year (2007) at Greensboro College as the hitting, outfield, and baserunning coach. The son of former major league pitcher and coach Jack Aker, he was a teammate of Head Coach Kenny Carlyle's at Ole Miss.

Since Aker has taken over the hitting coach duties at Greensboro, Pride hitters have set or tied 17 individual offensive records. He has overseen two Conference Players of the Year (Jess Maloney-2006 and Larry Lockhart-2005), two All- State selections and 10 First- Team USA South All Conference players.

Under his guidance, Pride hitters have hit over .300 as a team for three consecutive seasons, while leading the USA South in homeruns, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage the past two seasons. The Pride has led or come in second in 21 top offensive categories over the past three seasons.

While at Ole Miss, he was primarily a pitcher, but also saw time in the outfield
and at third base. Coach Aker was an assistant at Ole Miss in 1993 and a high
school head coach at Magnolia Heights in Senatobia, Miss. and Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood, Fla. for ten seasons before coming to Greensboro.

Aker's high school teams won seven consecutive conference titles and he was named Coach of the Year six consecutive years and coach of the North State All Star team twice while in Mississippi.

He and his wife, Keisha have three children: Mallory, Cole, and Blaine.
