In a pitcher’s duel that saw no earned runs scored, defending conference champion Averett defeated The Pride, 3-0, at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

GC’s Erik Kutz and Cougar ace Gene Yost both hurled complete games. Kutz threw 11 strikeouts and allowed 8 hits. Yost posted 17 strikeouts, no walks and gave up 3 hits. The Pride committed four errors to none for the visitors.

Averett scored one run in the first inning and two in the 5th inning. Brent Cole (1-3) doubled in the 7th inning to halt Yost's perfect game. GC's Jeremy Morrison (1-4) kept alive his 16-game hitting streak.
