Greensboro College baseball player
Jeremy
Morrison is on a roll--in more ways than one...
Morrison, a junior outfielder for
The Pride baseball team, has hit safely in GC's last 25 games. His batting
streak includes 22 games this season and carries over from the end of the
2003 campaign. The hitting streak is a GC and USA South record.
Morrison leads The Pride in batting
with a .436 average. GC's leadoff hitter and team captain also boasts a
.551 on-base percentage and has 12 stolen bases for The Pride (16-6).
Morrison: Student and Athlete
A native of Lancaster, Pa., Morrison
expects to earn his bachelor's degree in May. Number 44--nicknamed "Sarge"
by teammates for his leadership skills--already has garnered a number of
individual honors as a Pride student athlete.
Last year, Morrison won the Craven
E. Williams Award, the Trey Taylor Award and was named to the Verizon
CoSIDA regional academic team second team. The Craven E. Williams Award
is the highest honor combining academics and athletics at Greensboro College.
The Trey Taylor Award honors
the baseball player who combines commitment to team and teammates
above and beyond self, and baseball skill. This award is presented in memory
of baseball's fallen teammate, Trey Taylor, who possessed these fine qualities
and passed away during the 1997 season.
“It's truly an honor to coach a player
like Sarge,’" said Ken Carlyle, GC's baeball's head coach. "He is the team
leader on and off the field and will do whatever it takes to win a game."

The Best is Yet to Come?
The Pride is 16-6 and boasted a 10-game
winning streak earlier this year. GC is 4-5 in the USA South Athletic Conference,
recognized as the nation's best NCAA Division III baseball league.
With at least 19 games remaining,
The Pride already has its most wins since the 2001 season.
"The individual things are nice,
but nothing beats being a part of a winning team," Morrison said. "We are
doing some good things this year. I'd like to see us continue to improve,
make a statement in the conference tournament (April 14-17) and then see
what happens."
