Game 1: Greensboro 8, Emory &
Henry 1
GREENSBORO—The Greensboro College
Pride won their first back-to-back games of the 2005 campaign with a 8-1
win in the second game of a doubleheader. Jeremy Morrison and Larry
Lockhart led the way for Pride hitters, both who went 1-for-3, and
drove in two RBIs.
Starting hurler Kevin Showe
(1-0) gave way to reliever Steven Augone, after five complete innings,
where he struck out three, allowed one earned run, and one walk. Augone
would throw one inning, striking out two Wasp batters, and was followed
by Jacob Coltfelter, who closed out the game.
A leadoff single got the Wasps offense
started, as Brennan Stewart singled to right, and stole second. Two batters
later, Warren Scheslinger drove Stewart home with a base hit reaching the
left field wall, giving Emory & Henry a 1-0 lead. GC would tie the
game on a sacrifice fly by Larry Lockhart, bringing home Jeremy Morrison
for The Pride’s first run.
With both teams playing solid defense,
The Pride would score two runs with two outs in the home half of the third
inning. Zach Nichols singled to center, followed by a Larry Lockhart
triple that bounced in the left field corner, allowing Nichols to score
from first. Designated hitter Kevin Mong would rope a shot to center
field, scoring Nichols, and subsequently giving GC a 3-1 advantage.
In the GC half of the fourth inning,
The Pride would take advantage of two Wasp errors to score two runs, and
take a 5-1 lead. Adam Kennedy reached on an error by the catcher, followed
by Anthony Aversano reaching on an error occurring at third base.
Morrison would single to left field, sending home both unearned runs in
the form of Kennedy and Aversano.
The Pride would again score runs
with two outs in an inning, this time coming in the bottom half of the
fifth, sending three runs to the plate. With the bases loaded, a Aversano
would single to left field and score Chad Alligood from third base.
Jeff Gregory followed with a single to right scored Kennedy and
