GC 11, Vassar 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Seven Greensboro Collge batters got at least one hit in an 11-4 win at War Memorial Stadium over Vassar College. The Pride extended its win streak to six consecutive games.

Leading the way for The Pride (12-6) was centerfielder Larry Lockhart. He went 3-4 with one RBI. Lockhart fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle. He singled, doubled, and tripled.  Also registering multiple hits for GC was Chad Alligood (3-of-5, 3 RBIs, two doubles) and Kevin Mong (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 runs).

GC starter Chris Mock (1-0) threw five complete innings, scattered eight hits, allowed two earned runs, and fanned three Brewers (0-3). For Vassar, starter Quinn Robinson's  (0-2) outing was not as successful, allowing 10 hits, nine earned runs, five walks, while striking out four Pride batters.

The Pride scored four runs in the first, two of which came off the bat of Alligood on a single over the head of the shortstop. Pride baserunners Mong and Lockhart scampered home on the play.  With three GC runners reaching base due to a walk, and Lockhart reaching after being hit on the wrist, it took just two hits for The Pride to take a 4-0 lead.

In the home half of the third, GC scored three additional runs, again relying on the lower half of the order. Alligood, with two runners in scoring position, hit a double down the left field line scoring Mong.  The ninth hitter in the GC lineup, catcher Brandon Stanford, drove in two RBIs on a double that reached the centerfield wall.  The Stanford double brought home Alligood and Anthony Aversano, giving GC a 7-0 lead.

Jacob Clotfelter entered the game for GC starter Mock in the sixth. Vassar tacked on two more runs. Again with the bases loaded, the Brewers brought home Ivan Cedillo on walk.  The Brewers Marc Ramos grouded into a second double play turned by GC, bringing Nate Webb home from third base.

Centerfielder Lockhart led off the sixth inning for GC with a triple to left field.  Mong followed with an RBI single to left field, bringing Lockhart across the plate for the 10-4 GC lead.

The Pride added one run in the eighth inning, after Lockhart lead the game off with a single to left field and moved to third on consecutive steals.  A passed ball with Aversano at the plate for GC, allowed Lockhart to score easily, and give GC its final run of the game in the 11-4 win.
