Guilford 4, GC 3

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford College scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Greensboro College, 4-3, at War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. The Loss was The Pride's third straight defeat.

In the top half of the ninth frame, Guilford's Chad Boone singled and then advanced to third on a failed pickoff by Steven Augone. He scored on a single to right field by Andrew Lerner (3-4, run, RBI), tying the game at 3-3.  Quaker Josh Miller later singled to center field brought home Rich Parks for an unearned run and the 4-3 advantage 

The Pride took a 3-2 lead in the home half of the eighth inning when a Lockhart home run went over the left field wall, his team leading fourth of the season. Lockhart went  1-for-4, with an RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs scored to pace The Pride.

Seven Pride hurlers took to the mound, with Chris Mock pitching three complete innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.  The remaining pitched one inning each, allowing two hits and four walks, before Steven Augone surrendered the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.  Augone (1-2), also had one inning of work. He allowed three hits, two runs, struck out two and walked one batter. 

The Pride scored two runs in the first inning, capitalizing on two Quaker throwing errors.  A base hit by Brent Justice, followed with Lockhart reaching on an error, put two on for The Pride.  On a double steal, Greensboro scored the games first run when an errant throw by catcher Phil Drew allowed Justice to score from third.  Two batters later, The Pride took a 2-0 lead, when Adam Kennedy laid down a sacrifice bunt, that scored Lockhart from third. 

Leading off the third inning with consecutive singles reaching the outfield, the Quakers (13-10) put runners at second and third with Fred Parent at the plate. Parent singled to left field for the third hit of the inning, scoring teammates Boone and Lerner in succession, tying the game at 2-2.
