Senior-Led Pride Baseball Team
Posts Banner Year

A veteran-led Greensboro College baseball team finished 2005 with a 24-16 record: the third best year in Pride baseball history.

As a team, the '05 club set numerous pitching records—including lowest ERA (3.26). The Pride also set new standards for defense, evidenced by its program-best .956 fielding percentage. Another highlight of the baseball season was GC’s first ever USA South three game sweep—at Averett—early in conference play.

There were many other individual benchmarks set in the 2005 year. Larry Lockhart became Greensboro’s first conference player-of-the-year. Kevin Mong had another strong year at the plate, and, like Lockhart, was one of three first team All-USA South honorees. Pride catcher Taylor Kennedy was the third. Kennedy was also the lone GC player selected to the all-tournament team.

GC had six All-USA South picks. Senior Jeremy Morrison was one of three Pride second team honorees. Morrison exits Greensboro College as one of the most decorated student-athletes ever. He won both the Craven E. Williams Award and the Fred Joseph Award last year. Morrison and Mong earned CoSIDA regional academic first team honors.

The Pride entered its last week of conference play tied for first in the USA South. GC also won three games in the conference tournament for only the second time ever.

“We battled every game, and I’m proud of what our team accomplished this year,” said Head Coach Ken Carlyle.
