Methodist Tops Baseball Pre-Season Poll; Pride Picked Fourth

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the results of its 2005 baseball pre-season poll.  Methodist has been selected to finish first this upcoming season.  Christopher Newport follows closely behind at second.  The poll is voted on by the baseball coach at each school.  The Monarchs won the Conference Tournament last season, after finishing fifth in the regular season.  They ended the year 30-19 overall and 10-11 in USA South action.  The Captains finished the 2004 regular season in second place and posted a 25-16 record overall, including 14-7 in the Conference. 

Greensboro College was picked closely behind Ferrum and is fourth in the coaches' poll. The Pride returns 17 starters from a 2004 team that was 21-18. GC opens play Feb. 5 vs. Maryville. Game time is Noon at War Memorial Stadium.
