DANVILLE, Va. – First-seeded Methodist
held off a late rally from Greensboro College team, 6-5, in a USA South
Baseball Tournament game at Dan Daniel Park on Friday.
The Monarchs, the nation's sixth
ranked team, built a 6-2 lead after four innings. The Pride, however, rallied
with three runs in the eight inning to cut the margin to one run.
GC's two top hitters, Larry Lockhart and Kevin Mong, reached base in the
final frame, but MC's Blake Maxwell closed the door and earned his eighth
save of the session.
Chad Clark had a big day at the plate
for Greensboro. He went 2-3 with three RBI. Chad Alligood (2-4, one run
RBI) and Brent Justice (2-4) also had multiple hit outings for The Pride.
Freshman Kit Mock (1-1) took the
loss for GC. Freshman southpaw Torrey Poholsky threw 4 1/3 innings of shut
out ball and gave up two hits for The Pride.
