Pride Baseball Team Posts 20 Wins

The Greensboro College baseball team entered 2007 with very high expectations. GC returned a number of key contributors from last year’s 27 win team that advanced to the USA South championship game. While they were unable to repeat that finish, Pride baseball nonetheless posted another successful season.

GC began the year with a memorable trip to Southern California. Against tough competition, The Pride went 3-2 on the trip including a 4-3 win over a fine LaVerne team. Another season highlight was sweeping cross-town rival Guilford College for the first time since 2002.

This year was The Pride’s fourth straight year with 20 or more victories. Greensboro went 20-20 and suffered three extra inning defeats—six by just one run, and 11 by two runs or fewer. Suffice it to say, GC fielded a talented lineup that was competitive in every game.

The team had a number of impressive individual achievements during the year. The Pride received four all-conference honors. Junior Kyle Bolick and senior Pat Burgess earned first team recognition.

Chad Bray and Jess Maloney also ended their stellar careers for the green and white. Bray became the all-time wins leader with 22. Slugger Maloney closed his career tops in all-time batting average and slugging percentage, and is tied in home runs. Maloney also became the first ever Pride player to win the team’s triple crown: tops in batting average, slugging percentage, and home runs.
