Greensboro College Baseball Head
Coach Ken Carlyle will enter his seventh year leading The Pride in
2008.
In 2007, The Pride finished the year
with a 20-20. Overall,
it was GC's ninth 20-win season. The previous year, GC tied the most wins in program history with 27 victories. The '06 Pride defense was ranked
10th nationally for fielding percentage (.956), which was also a program
benchmark. GC also set new standards for defense as evidenced by its by
.956 fielding percentage, also a new standard.
Carlyle and GC baseball also had
other highlights in 2006. The Pride reached the USA South championship
game for the first time since 1998 and defeated eight ranked teams during
the season. GC set a program record with seven all-conference honorees,
including five first team selections. Carlyle picked up his 100th career
win on the final regular season game and has a 100-94 record at Greensboro
College.
In his five previous seasons, Carlyle
has coached one All-American, five all region, 20 All-USA South Conference
and six NCCSIA All-State honorees. The Pride produced the conference rookie
pitcher-of-the-year in '03, the pitcher-of-the-year in '04 and Greensboro's
back-to-back players-of-the -year in 2005 and '06. Additionally, GC baseball
players have twice won the Fred Joseph Award and the Craven E. Williams
scholar athlete honor three times since 2002.
Under Carlyle's guidance, the team's
grade point average has risen nearly half a grade and his players have
earned five CoSIDA regional academic team selections. Greensboro College
also established a sub-varsity/JV baseball team in 2002 under his direction.
Carlyle was hired as head baseball
coach at Greensboro College in May of 2001. He served under Scott Rash
as an assistant coach since January, 2001. His duties: pitching coach and
recruiting coordinator for this year's GC team. Carlyle helped Greensboro
to a 19-16 record--a nine game improvement from the previous season. His
pitching staff reduced its earned run average by more than one run from
the '00 club.

the Detroit Tiger and Atlanta Brave organizations from 1992 to 1999. He
reached the Triple-A level, and was a Double-A All-Star in 1994. A business

all-time leader in pitching victories (27). Carlyle was drafted in the
ninth round by the Cincinnati Reds in 1991 and taken by the Tigers in the
fourth round the following year. Carlyle was inducted into his high school's
