Review of the 2000 Season |
| Competitive...You couldn’t find a better word to describe the 2000
Greensboro College women’s tennis team, give its challenges.
Over the course of season, The Pride overcame adversity. In some matches, GC had to default two flights due to injury or illness, leaving The Pride down two match points before the match had even begun. But that never stopped the ladies from battling. GC’s overall record of 4-12 was not an accurate representation the team’s talent. Through the challenges of injuries, and being short-handed, the team finished in third place in the Dixie Conference with a 4-2 record. The netters had two players in the conference finals for their flight: Karen Dutton and Courtney Asby. Jennifer Lea and Dutton also earned a spot in the finals for the number one flight in doubles. The Most Valuable Player Award went to a young lady who outwardly displays a very pleasant demeanor, but inside is a fierce competitor. Said first-year Head Coach Pat Williams : “Karen is the most competitive person I’ve ever met.” She finished the regular season with a 12-2 record and second in the conference. Coach Williams believes this is one of the most talented teams in GC’s recent history. With their confidence over the season, and the return of six out of seven players, the team is already preparing for the Dixie Conference Championship in 2001. |
