Each new student is assigned an academic advisor who will also instruct the First-Year Seminar. The academic advisor not only guides students through the curriculum but also assists with cocurricular choices. The first-year advisor is especially equipped to assist new students as they explore their academic and career choices.
The first-year advisor often coordinates with the director of the first-year experience on students' performance and progress. Entering students register for courses with an advisor at either Campus Connection or Precis. Whereas it is acceptable to begin college with an undecided major, all students must decide on a major by the end of the sophomore year.
Graduation requirements for the B.A. and B.S. degrees are listed in the Academic Catalog. Each student must complete the required number of hours in general education, major courses and electives to graduate. Students must also have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average to graduate. Entering students must demonstrate proficiency in writing, math and a foreign language through placement evaluations, AP credit and/or fulfilling particular courses. Questions regarding AP credit, transfer credit and specific major requirements can be answered in the Academic Catalog.
