General Information
Graduation and receipt of a diploma from Greensboro College is an honor bestowed by the Faculty, Administration, and Board of Trustees. Only students who have completed all requirements for their program(s) of study are eligible for participation in the commencement ceremony. Graduates also must have all accounts paid and must have completed an Intent to Graduate form.
Degrees are granted three times during the calendar year-May, August, and December; however, the only commencement ceremony is held in May. Graduates who receive their degrees in August or December are encouraged to participate in the following May ceremony, but students must notify the College Registrar at least one month prior to the ceremony whether they intend to participate in the commencement exercises. No matter when the degree is granted, the student must go through the proper application process and pay the appropriate fees to receive the diploma.
Schedule of Events
- Rehearsal will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Cowan Hall. All graduates are expected to attend.
- Senior Brunch will be held immediately following the rehearsal on Saturday, May 10, 2008 on Front Campus, weather permitting.
- Baccalaureate Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Baccalaureate is an important aspect of the spiritual and academic life of Greensboro College. All graduates and their families are encouraged to attend.
- Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at 10 a.m. on Front Campus, weather permitting. Graduating students may invite as many guests as they wish to join this celebration. In the case of inclement weather, commencement will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum. An announcement about the event location will be made during the Baccalaureate Service if possible. Seating is limited at this venue.
Attendance
The College expects attendance by those who will graduate at the end of the spring semester; a spring semester graduate who does not plan to participate has the responsibility of obtaining consent from the Vice President of Academic Affairs to receive their diploma in absentia. Graduates who choose not to participate in the ceremony will receive their diplomas by mail after Commencement. Graduates of August or December are encouraged to attend and will be expected unless they notify the Registrar that they will not be present.
Disability Related Needs
The college has reserved parking spaces for guests with mobility impairments; however, the total number of parking spaces is limited. To park in one of these reserved spaces, a valid permit is required. In addition, areas within the seating section have been reserved for wheelchair users.
