Dr. Craven E. Williams is the 17th president of Greensboro College, having previously served as president of Gardner-Webb University for 10 years. He also served as vice president at Davidson College and at Mary Baldwin College, where he taught religion and psychology.
Williams is a graduate of Wake Forest University, Southeastern Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He was a visiting scholar at Oxford University, England, and he writes extensively for business, educational and religious publications.
Williams is a member of the Order of Elders of the United Methodist Church, a member of the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Western North Carolina Conference, and one of 500 members of the Board of the World Methodist Council, representing Methodism in 130 countries. In 1980 Williams was inducted into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by then Governor, James B. Hunt. He is married to the former Judith Campbell of Birmingham, Ala., and is the father of Lee Williams Watts, an accountant in Charlotte, N.C., and Joseph Howard Williams, an attorney in Mt. Airy, N.C.
